Education Assessment

What is the Education Assessment?

Educational assessmentThe Gabbitas Education Assessment offers parents the opportunity to have their child independently assessed by a qualified educational psychologist and, in conjunction with a Gabbitas consultant, to identify the best way forward.

Who provides it?

Our educational consultants, who combine experience as teachers, head teachers and advisers on all stages of education, work in close co-operation with a panel of chartered educational psychologists, each of whom has a wide experience of general practice with an individual expertise in a particular area.

How does it work?

A full session lasts about two-and-a-half hours. Parents have a short discussion with our consultant and psychologist to ensure that we are fully informed about the child’s educational history and any other relevant issues. Our psychologist then uses a range of appropriate tests to establish strengths and academic potential and to identify any educational problems, difficulties or special needs. This is followed by a review of the results and the chance for parents to talk to the consultant and psychologist in more depth to decide on the next step. Our recommendations might include consideration of a change of school, suggestions for alternative or future schools, or a review of the level of support provided by the child’s present school. A full written report on the assessment and consultation is provided afterwards.

Who uses the Education Assessment?

The service is used by parents who are concerned about their child’s progress at school and would like an independent, objective and informed opinion or, in certain cases, a second opinion. In some cases parents themselves may have noticed difficulties; in others, the school may have advised of particular problems. The service is also helpful for parents simply seeking an indication of academic potential as an aid to choosing a suitable school for the next stage of education.
