To help international youngsters make the tough transition to studying in the UK, Gabbitas offer a Mentoring Support Service for all higher education students. Each student is allocated a personal advisor who can be contacted via telephone and email to offer all available support and advice. Additionally the Personal Advisor will monitor the student’s educational progression and welfare throughout their studying time. This includes the following:
- Ensuring that your accommodation arrangements are satisfactory and offering advice on how to make alternative arrangements, if necessary
- Ensuring that you have registered with a local doctor or health centre, as appropriate
- Ensuring that you have registered with the police, if necessary
- Maintaining telephone and email contact with you
- Liaising with university staff over module/subject choices, if required
Additionally, Gabbitas will provide students with a 24-hour contact number, so they have constant access to support and advice, should an emergency arise.
All personal advisors have considerable experience of foundation and university education, as well as working with international students. Their role is to provide a source of independent support, advice and encouragement for students, throughout their time in higher education.
Emergencies - In the event of an emergency, parents will be contacted as soon as possible. A Gabbitas representative will be available, by telephone, as soon as possible to offer support to the student and to arrange any practical assistance that may be required.
