As in previous recessions, young people entering the labour market are experiencing the most difficulties in finding jobs. Very large numbers of graduates and others with higher level qualifications are failing in this depressed job market. This, linked with constraints on public funding and the need to develop vocational and essential basic skills training to equip young people for the job markets of the future, post recession, formed some of the underlying themes of this seminar.

Speakers also considered the tensions between providing a rigorous academic education and fulfilling the economic needs of society.

The event was rounded off with a keynote speech from David Willetts MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Universities and Skills.

July 2009 - CLA Game Fair

At the end of July 2009, the Gabbitas team took a stand at the CLA Game Fair, Belvoir Castle, Grantham in Leicestershire. The Game Fair, is the world’s largest and greatest country sport and countryside show and attracts over 100,000 visitors. Gabbitas exhibited with a small stand to promote its consultancy services including Guardianship, Recruitment and Assessment and Guidance. Interestingly, the main focus of interest was Higher Education - probably as a consequence of impending examination results due out.

The aim was for us to increase our brand awareness and standing with the visitors. We gave away hundreds of helium balloons to children at the event and our flag was flying high during the 3 day event. Fortunately, the weather held out for us (albeit the odd shower) and we hope to repeat the show next year, where the Game Fair is being held at Ragley Hall in Worcestershire.
