Olive Heffill, the Study Centre Director, has a very supportive, enthusiastic and encouraging attitude to the students in her care. She monitors their progress carefully and takes a very active part in the education programme. As the centre is small and all students live in boarding accommodation on site, the pastoral care is excellent. Each individual is nurtured to achieve the English language skills and curriculum knowledge to enable them to hit the ground running and thrive when they go on to boarding school for longer-term study. There is a mix of nationalities, with care taken not to take too many of one language group, so the common language of communication for all is English. As the study centre is linked to Bedford School, they have access to an extensive range of facilities for extra-curricular activities and the proximity to the centre of Bedford makes shopping, cinema and theatre trips easy. For a child who is new to the UK, who needs to be nurtured in a caring environment, whilst being pushed to develop language and academic skills in preparation for UK curriculum study, this is the perfect choice.
