Facilities

Sport

There is outstanding provision for a wide range of sports; this includes a large, versatile sports hall, two squash courts, three floodlit tennis courts, an outdoor heated swimming pool, a nine-hole golf course and extensive playing fields. Athletics and netball are popular and pupils benefit from a floodlit all-weather surface. Inter-school fixtures are held regularly in athletics, basketball, cricket, cross-country running, hockey, lacrosse, netball, rounders, rugby, soccer and swimming. Other sports available are archery, badminton, climbing, golf, squash and tennis.

Drama, Art, Music

The creative arts flourish throughout the school. Music plays a central role; the school has five choirs including particularly distinguished Senior Choirs which have toured abroad and been invited to sing at local parish churches, university college chapels and cathedrals. In addition to the strong choral tradition, the school boasts wind bands, string groups, numerous ensembles, brass groups and orchestra. Performance experience is gained through regular lunchtime concerts as well as more formal school concerts and recitals in and out of school. Experts are regularly invited to hold workshops and recitals and there is an annual instrumental and music competition. Music scholarships to senior schools are won every year. The music department is housed in a well-equipped building off the old North Courtyard. Art is taught by specialist staff in the art studio where there is also a pottery room. There are regular opportunities for children to take part in theatrical productions such as the Junior Department nativity play and plays or musicals in the Middle and Senior Departments.
