Gabbitas Consultant Review
Academically the Dragon is a strong school although there is a wide range of abilities and the children go on to a wide range of senior schools including the most academically selective.
There is a vast range of facilities and activities including a 25-metre pool, 9 tennis courts large sports field and a large sport hall with a climbing wall on the outside. There is a big post-CEE programme and lots of visits abroad during the holidays, e.g. Skiing, Brazil, Sri Lanka and South Africa.
The school is a very buzzy place and the children are well behaved, friendly and articulate. It is a super school with facilities which many senior schools would be proud to have.
The boarding houses, especially the junior houses, are small and contain children of a similar age, so they are not living with much older or younger children, which is a good point about the boarding structure.
All the year 4 children (6 classes) are in a separate building within the main campus, with a class teacher for most subjects. Here again there is a micro-community within a larger one.
At the top end of the school there are 7 sets for major subjects, so there is grouping of very similar abilities. From Year 5 onwards the children are streamed for Maths and English, then form Year 6 for French and Latin.
This is a super school and feeds into some of the top schools in the UK.
