Gabbitas Consultant Review

Swanbourne House School has been co-educational since 1974. Day children are able to board on a flexible basis and many do this particularly on a Friday night.

There is an international element to their PHSE Programme, where adults from all over the world are invited into school to talk about the world of work and way of life in their own country.

The boarding house is run very much like a large family with the houseparents living onsite as well as an assistant housemistress and gap student junior staff from overseas. The boys dormitories are on one floor and girls on the floor above. They are large light spacious dormitories with plenty modern shower and bathroom facilities. There seems to be plenty of activity for the boarders at weekends with trips to the cinema, ice skating etc. There are also acres of grounds for the children to play in and many sporting activities at the weekends.

There is an active special needs department with 3 full times teachers to give help for example to pupils with dyslexia.

There is a well-equipped art room, CDT centre and music rooms, Extra lessons can be taken in a wide variety of musical instruments. The sports facilities are excellent with an astro-turf, 25 metre, 4-lane swimming pool, sports hall and 4 hard tennis courts. There are also ruby and hockey pitches as well as a 6-hole golf course.

Swanbourne have a King’s Scholar for Eton and send pupils mainly to Harrow, Winchester, Oundle, Uppingham, Oakham, St Edwards, Bedford, Radley, Stowe and Cheltenham Ladies College, as they are very well placed in the country to have all of these schools within an hour and a half travelling distance.

The school has a very happy, friendly environment where all are encouraged to achieve the highest academic standard of which they are capable, while still enjoying a life full of extra-curricular activity and sport
