Gabbitas Consultant Review
A wonderful location above Lake Windermere. An all-through school that has changed beyond all recognition since 1999 when it went fully co-ed. This has been a great success and the school has gone from strength to strength with numbers and academic standards. 60% of students are from the 'local' area The junior school, Elleray Prep School, is vibrant and reflects the Lake District National Park ethos with its wooden Eco Pod classrooms built on stilts (old telegraph poles) with a play area underneath. The senior school has a broad intake reflecting a good value added at GCSE. Academic standards have risen considerably with the introduction of IB. Staff training in the IB schedule has modernised the current approach thus allowing the school to attract good overseas students too (c 15% of the student population). The IB Career Certificate has been introduced to take advantage of practical skills that can be learnt on the nearby lakes and in the mountains.
