index card H G WellsSome of our earliest recruits went on to become household names.  Here is an image of the index card completed by H G Wells, in 1890.

Other well-known candidates include Evelyn Waugh, W H Auden, Amy Johnson, and Sir John Betjeman.  Another famous name, who applied to Gabbitas first in 1923 and later in 1939, was William Joyce (Lord Haw-Haw).

All of these, and thousands more over our long history, replied "promptly yet carefully" to Gabbitas advertisements for teaching posts.
